Advanced Searching in Spotify

As with most online search engines you can use similar methods to drill down and find what you really want.

Try this. I want to find tracks by Babyshambles from 2005-2007 that are not live track. I would use this search term

artist:babyshambles year:2005-2007 -track:live -album:live

If i wanted to find all house tracks I would search

genre:house

possibilities for genre are listed below

Alternative, Blues, Country, Disco, Funk, “Hard Rock”, “Heavy Metal”, Hip-Hop, House, Jazz, “New Wave”, R&B, Pop, Punk, Reggae, Rock, Soul,Techno

If you want resuts for 2 artists

artist:”Flight of the Conchords” OR artist:”The Lonely Island”

To summarise you can search for

  • artist:
  • track:
  • album:
  • year:
  • genre:

You may need to use “” around phrases like “The Stone Roses”

And you can use the operators

  • - minus
  • OR

Some Simple Regex for Analytics

If like me you cannot be bothered to learn regular expressions I have put together a simple guide. I use these simple terms to drill down into particular keyword within the Google Analytics keyword screens.

Google Analytics Regex

Find just the keyword pink rugs
To find the exact keyword you would type in ^pink rugs$

Find keywords beginning with brown
To do this you would use ^brown

Find keywords ending with Manchester
To do this you would use manchester$

Find keywords Manchester deals and Liverpool deals
To do this use ^manchester deals$|^liverpool deals$ notice the pipe in there?

I do know a fair bit more regex but you need nothing more than this to create decent keyword strings to get the results you need. If anyone has anymore they use, drop it in the comments

How to view the new Google layout

There have been some screenshots showing a new updated Google frontend shown below.

If you want to play around with it. Go to Google.com (and make sure it is on the .com and not redirecting to your local Google.)

When you are in Google.com paste the following in your address bar and click enter

javascript:void(document.cookie=”PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/; domain=.google.com”);

Manchester SEO Meet December #mancseo ** UPDATED **

** UPDATED SEE BELOW**

So itsĀ  the final meet up of the year on the Manchester SEO scene and I have been asked to organise.

As the Christmas markets are on in Manchester it would be rude not to make use of them.

On the 10th December we will head to Lincoln Square. Wandering where it is?. If your at the Town Hall which is where the main markets if you have your your back to the town hall your probably facing it, Brazennose Street is in between the Slug and Lettuce and Brasserie Chez Gerard. Half way down Brazennose Street is Lincoln square which will be much quieter than the main marked square and should see us be able to all get round a few tables. I have marked it all up on the maps and also added some car parks for the people from Leeds / Warrington etc

6pm – 9pm – Lincoln Square Beer Huts
9pm onwards – Lime (on the corner or Clarence and Booth Street)

*** UPDATE ***
As you enter the Lincoln Square area on Brazennose Street you will need to head to the hut on the far right after the statue and to the right of the main bar. You should see a few of us in there from around 6pm

In the meantime keep an eye out on the #mancseo tag and also the Manchester SEO LinkedIn Group. Also keeping an eye out on my Manchester SEO Twitter List as most of the people on it will probably be attending.

Proof that a Tweet Can Get Results

So what with me working right close to The Didsbury pub in Manchester me and a few guys from work thought it rude not to utilise the venue for lunch and the Friday fine ale. It came to a point recently where they changed the menu. To my shock they removed their amazing Sausage and Mash which i always ranted and raved about. I though to myself “This is something I have to Tweet!”. So I did!

me-to-didsbury

To which I never even thought I would get a reply, obviously the people there are switched on with reputation management and must be monitoring keyword mentionsĀ  because I got this ReTweeted reply.

didsbury-to-me

To which I though, “Yeah they’ve seen it but will they action it”….

So onto the proof that a tweet can get results. I went to The Didsbury yesterday (17th Nov) for lunch had a Lasagne. Went back to the table after ordering and spotted that on the bottom of the chef’s special board. Sausage and Mash! Chef’s Special…. Win!
